報道によると、保険会社は事務処理に不備があるという理由で死亡保険金約2200ドル(約21万円)の即座の支払いを拒否したそうだ。9日経っても保険金が支払われないことで男の葬儀は延期せざるを得なくなった。

　9日後、男の家族は再度、保険会社に保険金の支払いを求めたが、保険会社が再び支払いを待つように言ったため、男の家族は保険会社に男の遺体を袋に入れて持ち込み抗議した。男の家族の1人が保険会社に男の遺体を持ち込む様子の動画を撮影し、SNSに投稿した。動画が拡散されたことで保険会社は謝罪し、保険金を支払ったという。

　費用がかかる葬儀を巡っては、故人を敬うより金を優先してしまうことがあるようだ。
