Mom had to run errands and leave the house. Thankfully they didn’t trash it the moment she left but she did return home to 6 circling overhead. 　なお、このカリフォルニアコンドルは今も絶滅危惧種に指定されてはいるが、個体数が回復した、いわゆる保護の成功例のひとつだ。

　1980年代には数十にまで減少していたこの鳥は、野生生物保護活動家らの献身的な繁殖プログラムの導入によって、絶滅寸前の危機から救われたのだ。

　現在、アメリカに野生のカリフォルニアコンドルが300羽しかいない。飼育下のものと合わせても500羽しかいない希少な鳥だ。

　そのうちの15羽も集まるなんてこれは奇跡に近いが、居座られた住人としては困惑してしまうのもわからないではない。
